WEST ASHEVILLE is a neighborhood with its own unique vibe. Just take a stroll down Haywood Road, the historic main street running through the heart of this community, and you will see revitalization taking place everywhere.  At one end is the River Arts district, where artists are setting up studios in renovated factory buildings. Along the river, the French Broad Greenway project has created beautiful recreational space. At the other end, historic buildings house new businesses alongside second and third generation shops and new mixed use development.

More and more people here are being intentional about creating a community that values authenticity in relationships, living at a slower pace, walking to the grocery store, sharing time and resources, knowing their neighbors, caring for our environment, and enjoying good music, art and food. Though serious problems still permeate the area—poverty, broken families, higher crime rates—many are actively working to make West Asheville a more vibrant and healthy community.
